Our Entertainment Room Color Scheme: Navy, Mint, and Coral

Happy Valentine's Friday!  Yes, I've declared today as well as through the coming long weekend for those in the U.S. with President's Day on Monday, as an almost week long Valentine happy dance.  So today I'm giving myself a break and recuperating from the extensive painting in my Entertainment Room {got to get ready for the weekend don't ya' know}.

So what's an Entertainment Room you ask?

Its what we call our combined Living Room + Family Room spaces that are semi-adjacent or semi-divided depending on your point of view.  Originally two separate standard rooms, they were opened up to each other by adding an 11' (foot) wide archway in the middle of their common wall.  The Entertainment Room now measures approx. 21' (foot) wide x 26' (foot) long.  When painting, that seems like a lot a of brush strokes.  Ergo, I need a break.

Why am I painting? {again you might mutter under your breath}

You might have read my previous post where I shared my hubby's decorating insight, "we have too many blue rooms".  Well, the Entertainment Room was where he was staking claim to no blue walls.

At first I was shocked and panicked by his statement.  Blue is my go to wall paint color. But in truth, I never considered the colors in our Entertainment Room to be "the" color.  The color on the walls weren't choices per se but pragmatic uses of left over paint that provided a comfort color for a transition period until I figured these rooms out.  I guess hubby thought it was time to get on with the figuring and that he might be way over living in a transitional state that looked like a glorified college apartment.

For clarity sake I confirmed that blue in fact could be used in the room, he really just preferred to not have it on the walls.  Good thing, cause this beloved carpet wasn't leaving that space ...

I really love that carpet :)  And there's tons of colors in there to work with.

I'm using BM Hazy Skies, a taupey gray green khaki, on the walls pulled from the rug border ... at least in the TV portion of the space ... and the entire Entertainment Room will use a color palette of Mint, Orange / Coral, and Navy.  I've already have a few accents up like my recently updated orange mirror with Hazy Skies behind the mirror (not the color of the reflection, yep a preview of my painted fireplace although not finished in this photo) ...

and some new muted mint color lamps from Home Goods with an interesting pierced ceramic texture ...

and my club chairs covered in Frette by Duralee in Celery Mint color fit into this scheme pretty well too ...

But I'm stuck on the wall color for the front space, which will be a sitting / reading / ladies after dinner gathering spot.  This area will have a bit softer, more feminine slightly boho feel than the TV / media zone which is more tailored.  The club chairs shown above and a new sisal rug bordered in navy anchor the space ...

And cause I'm putting it all out there, here's how things look right now from the foyer looking through the sitting area into the TV zone ...

And here's the current furniture arrangement in the sitting area ... and yes, I'm open to changing colors on the casegoods if needed.

So, do open spaces / adjoining rooms need to be painted the same color?

Could I use a slightly lighter neutral in this zone ... for some reason I'm pulled to BM French Canvas.  Or BM Simply White.  Yes, the blues have been are being banished.

By the way, I do plan to paint a single color above and below the chair rail, including the chair rail.  I did this in the TV zone and really like the calm and more open feeling it creates.  The crown and base mouldings are changing to a bright optic white for the trim, you can see what a difference that makes in the upper right corner of the above pic, and this is the same trim color used throughout the downstairs.

And if you aren't already weary from reading this long post, here's some pretty pins that have inspired my thinking about this color scheme ... enjoy!  And yes, I definitely need a Chiang Mai pillow.

Have a wonderful Valentine's weekend y'all!

I definitely don't think you have to paint adjoining rooms the same color. Your spaces are really beautiful, Robin!! I love that rug, too!!

I love where it is all going. No need to paint adjoining rooms the same colour, although it can work well in some spaces. Oh and you so need a Chang mai pillow

I don't think adjoining rooms have to be painted the same color but they do help the space to feel larger and works as one when done that way. Another option would be to paint one room a slightly lighter or darker shade than the other. For instance go a few spots up or down on the paint swatch.
