Where I Walk {supporting the National Heart Association}

Hey blog readin' friends, this is Beaver, the 14 yr old puppy dog at the keyboard for this post on "where I walk".  And I have a lot of walking tails tales I could tell, because I walk a lot, but let's begin this story about walking for fitness with a reminder for my canine and human friends ...

{We carry a Gulpy (brand name) wherever we walk so I can refresh.  Its a water bottle with a drinking trough attached ... flip the bottle over and water pours into the trough.  Pretty cool, huh?}

Mom and I have covered a lot of walkin' territory over the years.  We're in our neighborhood so many times during the day we are called "the neighborhood watch".  You know Google Maps?  Our next door neighbor pulled up their house and zoomed in on the photo only to find that the satellite had captured mom, dad and me coming home after a walk!  Really :)

You all know that dogs love to walk but you might wonder why I walk so much.  Fitness.  Trying to better the odds.

You see, I wasn't born the healthiest pup (mom asked that I skip the details because she doesn't want the specifics of my situation to influence the behaviors of others without checking with their vet for advice on exercise, fitness, and their pup's health condition) but basically mom thought you take what you've been given and you strengthen it as much as possible.  So in a word, Fitness. We started walking.  And we do it a lot.  And yes, my vet is amazed by all the benefits I've reaped from our walking regimen.

Of course we walk our neighborhood.  And we walk to the local Elementary School daily for our extended walk.  Look at the family portrait we got at the school this weekend ...

... mom wants me to mention that shadows distort, that dad really isn't two feet taller than mom, and of course, that shadows add 20 lbs ... I 'm just repeating this because I really want that treat she has in her hand ;)

And we have some wonderful excursions too ... they're my favorite ... I get so excited, yipping and running around in the house when I see mom get my Gulpy out of the drawer ... I know I'm going with her for a great adventure :)  Why don't you come along to two of my favorite places.

Stony Point Fashion Mall
{Stony Point Fashion Mall, Richmond, Va ... an open-air mall that welcomes dogs with their human companions!  And dogs are also welcome inside the stores at the mall.}

In this lovely park-like setting amidst very fashionable stores, dogs are not only welcome but encouraged to shop with their owners!  I'm just sayin' this is a very good business strategy because there's lot of things hanging in mom's closet that wouldn't be there if I wasn't welcome here.

On a hot day in Richmond its so nice to be able to dash into any store and enjoy their air conditioning ... and how I love the marble floors in Saks, so handy for a super quick cool down ... and the sofa at Anthropology, let's just say its a good place for a quick nap or to hang with dad when mom disappears for hours (or so it feels like) ... and to all the shoppe keepers who know me by name and offer me treats, love ya!

University of Richmond

A great place of higher learning with some amazing architecture (perhaps we'll cover that on a separate walking tour someday) and my dad's Alma Mater.  It also has a fun lake surrounded by walking trails, complete with wooden bridges and gazebos, and a student union that completely spans one end of the lake (the water runs under the building).  Here's some pics ... {yep, I counted, there are 20 little ducks in that photo} ...
{Walking bridges and gazebo at one end of the lake at the University of Richmond.  This is a very popular place for "water dogs" to go swimming ... I'm a walker, not a swimmer!}
{The student union at the University of Richmond as seen from the walking bridge shown above.}
So walk daily, walk often, and walk for fun and fitness ... that's what we say at our house!

Oh, and mom wants you to know this post was inspired by Karah's {thespacebetweenblog.wordpress.com}
and supports
National Walking Day and the Heart Association.

And there's a contest you can enter with prizes (other than improved health) just for walking. Check out www.swavolunteer.blogspot.com for details.

Mom will be back this week doing the more typical blog thing so we hope you'll visit again soon! Bye for now!

Nice post, Robin! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I enjoyed your candid pics...I am a fellow believer in walking. My hubby and I walk 2-7 miles almost daily. Looks like you have some great scenery during your walks :)
