Culinary Tools become Favorites with a little Ingenuity

Ingenuity in the kitchen opens the possibility for anything being a favorite culinary tool. {Just ask Chef Alton Brown!}

And ingenuity with ingredients and recipes can save the dish, if not the day, when things just aren't going well.  {Just read about Julia Child.}

And ingenuity was my key ingredient for preparing meals using only a handful of the most basic wares while we lived in temporary housing during our home's post-fire restoration.

So even though I have numerous culinary tools now ...

... today I want to highlight a few of the basic, and sometimes forgotten tools, that may also be in your kitchen drawer and share a few ideas for ingeniously turning a singe-use tool into a multitaskers!

{a} The Egg Slicer

Works great for slicing fresh mozzarella and other soft fresh cheeses into consistent and uniform pieces.  Also performs the same magic for mushrooms.  Here's a uncommon lasagna recipe with fresh mozzarella and a few more tips if you want to give your egg slicer a try!

{b} The Extra Small Ice Cream Scoop with Release Handle

Works great for "drop cookies"!  Also works well filling mini-muffin cups without making a mess.  Once again, for both uses, this scoop creates uniform measures of the item for even and consistent baking.  Here's a waist-friendly {really, I'm not kidding} Chocolate Peanut Butter "drop cookie" recipe if you want to give a small ice cream scoop a try!

{c} A MicroPlane with Grater Attachment
{Sorry, no photo for this idea}  Fill the Grater Attachment with fresh herbs and an in instant the MicroPlane produces chopped herbs that are intentionally "bruised" to release their culinary oils, flavor, and lovely aroma!  The MicroPlane approach works well for a small amount of herbs for immediate use.  If you plan on growing a large volume of herbs to "preserve" for use in the fall / winter, you might be interested in my post Basil Lovliness: Fresh Now and Frozen For Later.

Hope my favorite multitasking uses for these culinary tools works in your kitchen too ... and saves you some kitchen storage space :)  What ingenious uses do you have for some of your culinary tools ... please share ... I'm always looking for and appreciate new ideas.  Thanks so much for visiting and hope to see you again ... don't be a stranger, OK?!  It would be great if you'd bookmark, Follow, or Pin us so you'll be able to find us again.
