What I Want My Blog To Be When It Grows Up {Link Party Post}

the space between

Interesting question ... thanks for asking!

You start doing something for one reason,
You continue doing it for a different reason.
------------------------------------
I started blogging because of our house fire.

I continue blogging because its a great hobby, allowing me to bundle a lot of my interests into a single purpose {writing, photography, graphics and yes coding ... this blog is fully and totally "DIY", along with reinventing our home ... aka decorating / restoring our house post-fire, cooking, puppy dog loving, and promoting fire / safety awareness}.  Whew!

My goals for the blog {what it wants to be when it grows up}:

{1&2} to be known as a blog that celebrates the "art of home{making}" by continuing to incorporate multiple aspects of our home life into posts

{3} to effectively promote and make available information on home and personal safety awareness issues

{4} to increasingly involve blog visitors through comments {it would be great to hear from you!}, reader questions turned into posts, and possibly reader submissions

{5} to not-monetize this blog; with the promotion of safety awareness this blog is an advocation ... I'd be open to accepting products for review or giveaways because that enhances the appeal and draw of the blog for readers, but I don't want to directly profit from this blog

{6} to enlist blog visitors in sharing and promoting safety awareness

Ummm, is it OK for me to practice goal #6?
{Photo of dishwasher that caught fire during operation overnight while family slept; all thankfully escaped.  When something like this happens, you greatly improve the outcome by being awake, alert, and able to respond. You don't have to run a dishwasher overnight, so don't.  Please.  Changing your habit of when you run a dishwasher may be a bit of a hassle, but if this were to happen, wouldn't it be worth it?}
I'd really appreciate your help in spreading the fire safety awareness message ... share our blog address with family, friends and co-workers, and Pin {would you please?} the above pic with a description like ...
"visit happilyhomeafter.blogspot.com to read about safety considerations when running a dishwasher overnight"
or
"photo of dishwasher that caught fire during operation overnight while family slept; all thankfully escaped. When something like this happens, you greatly improve the outcome by being awake, alert, and able to respond. You don't have to run a dishwasher overnight, so don't. Please. Changing your habit of when you run a dishwasher may be a bit of a hassle, but if this were to happen, wouldn't it be worth it?"
Did you know that if you select text before clicking PIN that the selected text will automatically paste into the PIN description?  I'm just sayin' it's a neat trick I recently read about.

Well, so there's my blog goals and thanks so much for letting me practice putting one of those goals into play.  Really appreciate your interest and while you're here, feel free to look around!  And of course, I'd love to hear any suggestions you have for my fire / safety awareness goal or anything else that's on your mind {that would be practicing goal #4 ... asking for involvement through comments}.  And for more information about fire safety including important information about children under the age of 16 and smoke alarms, click here.

Thanks again,

Well I just helped you with goal #6 and pinned that fizzled dishwasher. That is truly frightening and I am guilty of running my dishwasher at night -- or when I leave! Never again.

And your goals are wonderful. And I'm very impressed with your "code" skills.

Thanks so much for sharing your blog hopes and dreams at our link party today!

:)

Thanks Linda for the Pin and helping get the word out ... it takes a village {or villages} to get things done sometimes, and both blog-land and Pinterest are perfect villages for this kind of thing! Robin

Thanks for the Follow Andrea! I'd love to find out more about your safety tips. The puppy is Beaver and there's shamelessly plenty of pics of him around the blog :) Robin

Hi Karah,

Yep, when folks learn of the dishwasher aspect of the fire mostly they just can't understand ... that's OK, we experienced it and we still don't understand! I just want to spread an awareness of the possibility and point out that you don't have to run that appliance overnight, so don't. Please :) I seem to be "that woman" who repeats herself a lot!

Robin @ Happily Home, After said...

Well, forgetting to run it is one way to prevent a "problem" ;) Thanks for stopping in Micki.

Kelly,
Thanks for saying I had a platform ... I hadn't thought of it that way and immediately after hearing that I have so many new ideas how to manage this info as a PSA {public safety announcement}. Thanks for the Follow and I wonder what else you'll inspire me by!

Ann,
You can't imagine what a positive experience it is for me each time I hear someone say they won't run the dishwasher at night any more. Thank you. And thanks for passing that tid-bit forward as I know you will to someone. And thanks for the Follow too :)

Isn't the "when my blog grows up" party great? I'm meeting so many folks and discovering many new blogs too. Thanks for the Follow Suzy and I hope we can talk nutrition and food over a virtual cup of coffee someday.

Ann,

You do what ya gotta ... hasn't been the easiest at times and there were a couple of moments that I "melted down" ... but being able to share the info with others with the hope of preventing this again, that's powerfully good! Thanks for your lovely comments.

Karianne,

Yay! ... one more person that won't run a dishwasher at night and that I don't have to worry about :) Yeah, most people just shake their head and say "but it has water ... how does that catch fire?!" Thanks for your comment and thanks so much for this great party!

Hi Robin! Thanks for stopping in at my blog and I love the safety aspect of yours! I think many of us either get slack about some safety issues or just never think of them. I'm happy to be a follower now!

Misti,
Thanks back to you and welcome :) Yes, it is easy to overlook, forget about, or push safety issues to the back burner because we have so much other stuff going on ... and that will be a challenge for me trying to promote a safety consciousness platform when there's so many "pretty things" on blogs that probably will draw folks in before safety reminders. Any suggestions for how to get this message out there is greatly appreciated!

Oh, my gosh, Robin, you learn something new every day! I often run my dishwasher at night, but now I'm in the know... what a blessing that I read your goals tonight. Pinning this post, my dear!
